Resourcefulness

I suppose that, even with three weeks' time, I still have not been able to come up with my list of resolutions for 2011... but I have been thinking that resourcefulness is an excellent quality to have.  People these days are busier than ever and money, time, and energy have become scarce resources. In less than a month I will be moving to a new city, working full-time for the first time in my life (goodness!), making car payments and dishing out more than half my paycheck on living expenses.  This year, more than ever, I feel that learning to make the most of what I have will get me very far.

Resourcefulness = Necessity + Creativity + Persistance

My first step in this new direction has begun with an art project I just finished.  I have been looking for inexpensive ways to spruce up the less-than-lavish apartment I will probably be living in and stumbled across this very resourceful way of adding a little color to plain walls using paint samples.

This cost me $3 and about 15 minutes of my time... can't wait to find a home for these in my new place!

**DISCLAIMER: You may feel slightly guilty for stealing these samples from the local hardware store but the feeling is only temporary and will pass sooner than you think :P

Resolutions

One of my favorite pastimes lately has been Googling. As it is the first day of 2011, I decided to enter "new year" into the search bar, which led me to spend a good part of the day thinking about how and why people celebrate the start of the new year.  New Years Eve is a holiday that simply celebrates the passage of time.  It makes sense then that people use this occasion to look back on the past year and to make goals for the year to come.

I have maintained and broken my fair share of new year's resolutions in the past: eating healthier, picking up a new hobby, avoiding procrastination, etc. But this year I really want to make a meaningful resolution. I am writing this in the hopes that the perfect resolution will materialize before the end of the day, with less than one hour left... so much for not procrastinating!

**Afterthought:  Perhaps maintaining this blog will be my new personal commitment?
